Fall - Girls Swimming Co-Op with Cheney

The WIAA has a system in place in which two or more smaller schools or programs may form a Co-operative team in which multiple schools participate together as a “team” yet the individuals compete for their respective schools.  This agreement must be approved by both school boards and the Greater Spokane League…which it has for the 2024-2025 school year.

Cheney School District and Central Valley School District have been granted this co-op status for swimming.  Cheney has agreed for our swimmers to be coached and participate in their program under the guise of this agreement.

 

The following guidelines are to be in place:

 

  • This is to be reviewed on an annual basis
  • Co-Op paperwork needs to be signed/filed with WIAA by the participating schools
  • Co-op students compete for their school, but practice with Cheney athletes and are coached by the Cheney Staff and at their facilities. Practices are currently 315-435p on Monday thru Friday
  • Students/families are responsible for all travel to and from Cheney practice facility. They are also responsible for meeting at Cheney HS to travel with Cheney athletes to and from competitions
  • Cheney may put a cap on the number of Co-op schools that can participate or put an end to Co-Ops as they see fit for their district
  • Students will purchase an ASB from Cheney and register in Cheney Final Forms for tracking and communication AND register with their home school in Final Forms as well for tracking and communication purposes
  • Students are responsible for purchasing their own team competition uniforms and equipment
  • CVSD will provide for the initial “team fee” as outlined by Cheney School District.  Per season Co-op fee: $250 for 1-4 participating athletes, $500 for 5-8 athletes.  CVSD will also provide for WIAA post-season travel arrangements in accordance with District Policy for other sports/activities.

Be aware, this is a unique opportunity for our schools and students that requires unique concessions and circumstances for this to be a reality.  The goal is to provide an opportunity for swimmers in our area given the current constraints of availability.  This co-op represents that opportunity.
